writing and speaking is all about communication.. if we are casually engaged the level of precision vanishes.
simple ideas=simplified language.. but, as we attempt to convey accuracy, specificity and numerical precision--what then?
without a clear standard is proper communication headed for extinction?.
Back in the day, I was a professional copy editor, an instructor of freshman composition classes, and a writing tutor for grad students. Unless you're writing professionally or academically, I say relax the rules, as long as the writing is understandable. This is an informal site for all manner of posters. What they say is far too important to sweat the small stuff. "Miss Thistlebottom's Hobgoblins" has no place here.

suddenly the flimsy cardboard side of the box came unglued, and bottles dumped out, smashing open on the floor.
a river of iced tea began to run down the aisle.
Dropped a carton of eggs. Immediately blocked the mess with my shopping cart, went to the service desk, apologized and asked for cleanup, then went back and guarded the mess so other shoppers wouldn't injure themselves until the cleanup guy arrived.
Don't just leave your broken glass and mess. Some kid running down the aisle may injure himself.

I recently extended a cordial invitation for demons to visit my home. Not a one showed up. I have a parakeet (shocker!), and she showed no signs of being possessed.
Although ... she does bite my fingers when I'm typing on the computer; she goes berserk when she sees a presciption pill bottle and attacks it with impressive ferocity for a 2-ounce bird; and, most unnerving, when she stands on my floral kitchen mat, she blends in so well, she seems to disappear altogether, like a wraith in the fog.
Of course, she did all of these things before the demon invitation, during the demon invitation, and after the demon invitation. So I think your dog is safe.

I knocked on many Mennonite doors when I was in my teens. They slammed their doors harder and faster than dyed-in-the-wool Catholics. People who worked night shift ranked third.

not bragging in anyway, but i was born-into a family of 'higher ups' im talking co's and zo's..... and there is a room that they set up in the conventions/stadiums called the "chairmans office".
i always have access to these rooms, because im usually with one of my higher up family members who give talks and all that other crap.. anyways, while everyone in the convention is sitting in the sun, eating a slimy, soggy bolognia sandwich, the chairmans office is air conditioned, has a variety of chilled beverages, 'coke, pepsi, diet coke, gatorade, dasani water bottles,' not to mention the 'danishes, sandwich triangles, cookies, cakes, muffins, fresh coffee, and for lunch, pizza, salads, pastas, and lasagna'.
That they exist.

recovering: There is a difference the amish allow a period for their young people to try the outside world with no reprucusions. Only after that are they allowed to get baptized

I live in Lancaster County, PA -- Amish Central -- and I've come to dislike the Amish for the very reasons OTWO gave. And the Amish only allow education up to eighth grade. The elders like to keep them unaware of the benefits of higher education. Were it not for their "quaint" clothing, horse-and-buggy transportation (a traffic hazard BTW), and farming, they wouldn't merit a second look from the public.
